Laura is a bright and eager-to-learn pupil, however issues with her eyesight were preventing her from reaching her full potential.
At school, Laura was struggling to keep up with her peers and the teachers put this down to Laura being naughty.
Her mum’s growing concerns led to her booking an appointment with a main street optician who suggested that Laura’s challenges may be caused by a condition called “visual stress”.
Laura was given coloured lens glasses, which did not help and the optician suggested getting Laura assessed for Irlen Syndrome.
That’s when Laura’s mum’s perseverance paid off, as she organised a fundraiser at the school to help towards the costs of Laura’s appointment with an Irlen Syndrome diagnostician in Manchester.
When Laura’s first pair of Irlen Spectral Filters arrived, her life changed completely.
Laura could see everything clearly for the very first time in her life: the trees looked like trees, she could see patterns, she was able to gain her independence by walking herself from one classroom to the other.
And most importantly, Laura was able to finally do what she loves best: creating breath-taking celebrities’ portraits!
